Ohara Koson (1877-1945) was a Japanese woodblock print artist renowned for his mastery in the early 20th century. Specialising in prints of birds, flowers, and landscapes, Koson’s work epitomised the Shin-hanga movement, revitalising traditional ukiyo-e art. His prints, admired for their meticulous detail and delicate colouring, gained international recognition, influencing artists like Vincent van Gogh and Gustav Klimt. Despite challenges, including natural disasters and war, Koson’s legacy endures as a timeless representation of Japanese artistry and nature’s beauty.
