The third book in the Australian Memories series commemorates the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. This collection of stills from the Cinesound and Movietone Newsreel Archive, published for the first time, captures Australians at war as they fought at home and abroad for their country from the Kokoda Trail in New Guinea and the legendary Rats of Tobruk in North Africa to the bombing of Darwin and the shelling of Sydney Harbour. Cinesound and Movietone newsreels played in Australian cinemas from 1931 to 1975. The Cinesound and Movietone Newsreel Archive is permanently accessible to the public. It is inscribed on the Australian Memory of the World Register, a global UNESCO program.
